about the treatment
Our Localised Cryo targets a specific muscle area or joint directly with cold air for a few minutes to decrease pain and inflammation, while improving blood circulation in the affected area.
While Whole Body Cryotherapy triggers an internal systematic anti-inflammatory response, Local Cryo is a more powerful and efficient form of “icing.” Local Cryotherapy is used to reduce pain, swelling and inflammation in specifically targeted areas. Temperatures of Localised Cryo can reach as low as -60 celsius, generating a high-intensity reaction called thermal shock.
Local Cryotherapy fights worn-out, overworked and inflamed areas of the body by promoting a thermo-shock reaction which causes retraction and then expansion of the blood vessels. During this process, accelerated blood flow, healing enzymes and ‘life supporting’ hormones are dispatched to the treated area. This can help to reduce inflammation, pain and muscle tension, boost collagen production and flush toxins from the skin. Thermo-shock can also kill everything that does not belong in the skin tissue – whether that be infection or disorders caused by bacteria, virus or fungus.
Who is it for?
Local cryotherapy is an ideal treatment for anyone with pain and inflammation in specific regions of the body. Anyone who suffers from chronic pain due to arthritis, sclerosis, injuries or illness can benefit from localized cryotherapy. Patients recovering from surgery on a knee, hip or shoulder joint often have cryotherapy treatments to alleviate pain and speed up the healing process.

In some cases, direct cooling of a specific area may be more beneficial for client concerns than Whole Body Cryotherapy. Using cooled air streams our Localised Cryo can be used on an area of skin without affecting the surrounding tissues. The treatment takes as little as 1-2 minutes and up to 15 minutes for larger areas, the effect on the area is most spectacular. It can significantly help relieve pain and repair damaged tissue.
Localised Cryotherapy doesn’t hurt, although the exposure to the cold is often a strange sensation during your first session. Cryotherapy uses the cold temperatures to foster the body’s natural healing process. With modern technology, this involves utilizing liquid nitrogen to cool and treat targeted areas on the body – or the face with our Cryo Facials.
The treatment is excellent as a supporting therapy that is used directly on an area for improving chronic pain, inflammation, itching, an array of skin conditions and sports injuries. It’s also great for general vitality and rejuvenation, giving the skin a fantastic glow, improving scar tissue, stretch marks and cellulite. Also, the use of cryotherapy after an operation is quite common as it accelerates the healing process and improves any pain without high levels of medication and the accompanying side effects!
Professional athletes recover faster and perform at higher levels when cryotherapy is applied.
Finally, it’s great for looking amazing as it improves the skin tone, texture and tightens if you have a special occasion or an event to prepare for.
The practitioner will move the applicator (the low-temperature air stream) in smooth scanning movements/motions, keeping the device at a distance of 2-4 cm from the skin. A typical area of 10×10 cm is treated approximately for 1 – 2 minutes, at a maximum intensity level of the air stream. You will be sat down and you can relax while you feel the cool air touch the surface level of your skin.
Anywhere between 3-10 minutes. This will vary and depend on the area being treated, the size of area, and what we are treating for.
Obviously, this really depends on each individual person! If you wish to battle inflammation or skin conditions, we recommend doing an intensive treatment program with 4-5 treatments each week for 2 weeks.
For sports athletes they may need to come in daily to speed up recovery and enhance strength and endurance. Depending on your specific issues and objectives our health advisors can help put together the right treatment plan for you.

It is direct and you will often have a course of treatment, it is used more for skin rejuvenation, tightening and specific injury points to combat inflammation. Whole Body Cryo is more intense, and much colder due to the nature of the treatment and the experience within the sauna, and full body repair is enhanced rather than localised skin repair in a specific area.
